Heavy rain floods 500 houses and affects 2,000 families in Saptari

SAPTARI: Heavy rain has left about 2,000 families affected after floods inundated some 500 houses in parts of Saptari district, local officials said.

The flooding struck Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipality and Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality. In Hanumannagar Kankalini, 483 households in wards 5, 7, 12 and 13 were reported affected. Ward 4 and Ward 5 of Tilathi Koiladi also experienced inundation.

Birendra Majhi, mayor of Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality, said that the water level in the Saptakoshi River rose on Friday night. He said, "We will ensure that those impacted receive food each day for now, and we will distribute more relief supplies once the water levels begin receding."

Local authorities are monitoring the situation and preparing further relief distribution as waters subside.
