1,454 bodies recovered, 4,718 remain missing after Bhotekoshi flood: police

KATHMANDU: A total of 1,454 bodies have been recovered, while 4,718 people remain missing after the Bhotekoshi flood on August 26, Nepal Police said on Tuesday.

Police Headquarters data show recoveries by district, with Rasuwa 236, Nuwakot 24, Dhading 72, Chitwan 369, Gorkha 79, Tanahun 38, Nawalpur 232 and Nawalparasi West 222.

Deputy Inspector General and central spokesperson Abi Narayan Kafle said 1,334 of the recovered bodies have been processed after completing necessary procedures, including the collection of DNA samples for identification. He added that 7,975 police personnel have been mobilised for post‑disaster response, including rescue and search operations, relief distribution and management of recovered bodies.

Search operations continue for 4,718 people who remain missing, the Police Headquarters reported.

The Bhotekoshi River flood in Rasuwa caused widespread loss of life and extensive damage to property across Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Chitwan and other districts.
