KATHMANDU: Passengers travelling home for the Dashain festival will be able to book their tickets in advance from October 9, following a resolution reached today at the Department of Transport Management (DoTM).
The decision was finalised at a meeting attended by key officials, including DoTM Director General Rajeev Pokharel and Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNTE) President Punya Prasad (Saroj) Sitaula.
The DoTM expects a significant increase in the influx of passengers leaving the capital for various districts, which has led to advance ticketing, vehicle management, and preparations for passenger services being prioritised.
Speaking to media representatives after the meeting, Director General Pokharel informed them that opening advance bookings on October 9 will ensure the smooth, safe, and organised movement of passengers during the festival.
He stated that the necessary preparations for transport management are currently underway, noting that coordination is taking place with relevant authorities, transport operators, and security agencies.
Director General Pokharel mentioned that requisite arrangements will be made to create a comfortable environment for passengers reaching their destinations, keeping the high volume of travellers in mind to ensure transport services remain organised and safe.
The DoTM said these early preparations aim to prevent unnecessary hardships for passengers, ensure there are no difficulties in securing tickets, and allow everyone to travel safely throughout the Dashain period.
