KATHMANDU: Minister for Infrastructure Development Sunil Lamsal announced on Tuesday that discussions are currently underway with China to reopen Tatopani and Rasuwagadhi trade transit points.
While the connecting road within Nepal has already been cleared and reopened, the minister informed lawmakers that Chinese authorities do not yet appear prepared to resume cross-border operations at Tatopani crossing.
Minister Lamsal shared this update during a meeting of the Parliamentary Special Committee on the Impact of Climate Change in the Himalayas, Climate Justice and the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli Disaster, reaffirming the government's continuous efforts to resume operations with Nepal's northern neighbour.
"We are ready even now. We have no difficulty operating the border point from our side. We are also in regular communications with the Chinese side. We are working on how to reopen Rasuwagadhi border point," the minister mentioned.
Recent severe natural disasters, particularly the Bhotekoshi flood on August 26, hindered the immediate resumption of operations at the two border points.
The government is actively working to construct and restore roads and other essential infrastructure in the affected regions to facilitate the reopening of these critical routes, the minister said.
