KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha said the government has prioritised development of an energy-based economy and urged the sector regulator to win the trust of investors, consumers and other stakeholders.
Minister Shrestha made the remarks while receiving the annual report of the Electricity Regulatory Commission for the fiscal year 2025/26. "The market needs and stakeholders' concerns should be taken into account by the regulatory decisions and policies," he said.
Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC) Chair Dr Ram Prasad Dhital handed over the report to the minister today. Shrestha warned of the need for energy diversification in the wake of recent disasters, saying, "Diversification of the energy mix helps reinforce energy security."
He added that a clear, predictable and credible regulatory atmosphere is instrumental in attracting investment.
The commission said it has implemented regulatory measures in response to evolving needs, market expansion, the investment climate, and consumers' interests.
