KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has warned of rain and snowfall, including thunderstorms, lightning, hail and strong winds in several parts of the country as a western low-pressure system interacts with monsoon winds.

The DHM said there is a likelihood of heavy rainfall this afternoon in the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Sudurpashchim provinces, and in one or two places in the Tarai of Koshi Province. Moderate rain with thunder and lightning is expected in one or two places in Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.

At present, the hilly and mountainous regions, Madhesh Province and the Tarai areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces are generally cloudy, with other areas partly cloudy. The DHM added that some hilly and mountainous locations may see moderate rain and snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds and hail.

Temperatures are likely to fall slightly across the country, the meteorological office said, and heavy rain remains possible in the hilly districts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Sudurpashchim provinces, with isolated heavy showers in parts of the Koshi Tarai.

The DHM has urged farmers and relevant authorities to check the latest weather updates and forecasts regularly and to take necessary precautions.
