KATHMANDU: National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has urged the public to remain alert as Cyclone Arnab develops over the Bay of Bengal, with potential impacts on Nepal's weather on October 30 and 31.
According to the NDRRMA, the cyclone could bring heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds across various parts of the country. Many areas of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces are likely to receive moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds, while some places may experience heavy rainfall. Rain is also possible in parts of Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.
NDRRMA spokesperson Ram Bahadur KC said the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology had forecast the cyclone's possible impact on Nepal from Friday.
The NDRRMA also warned of heavy snowfall, snowstorms and avalanches in high-hill and Himalayan regions, posing risks to travellers and local communities.
The Authority has advised people to avoid travel to high-altitude areas, restrict journeys to essential purposes and stay away from riverbanks and flood-prone locations. It has urged the public to follow official weather updates and move to safer areas if necessary.
For assistance, the NDRRMA said people can call 1155 for weather information, 1234 for disaster support, 100 for Nepal Police and 1144 for Tourist Police.
