KATHMANDU: Swiss National Council President Pierre-André Page today inaugurated the exhibition 'Half-way Between Earth and Sky: In the Footsteps of Ella Maillart' in Kathmandu. The exhibition is part of celebrations marking 70 years of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Switzerland.

The exhibition features photographs by Swiss photographer Christian Dupré and Nepali photographer Rocky Prajapati, who revisited Maillart’s journey and documented landscapes, trails and encounters linking the past with the present.

Inspired by the journey of Swiss explorer, adventurer and photographer Ella Maillart and her book 'In the Land of Sherpas', the exhibition retraces the route to Gosainkunda and explores what has changed and what has remained the same over time.

According to the Embassy of Switzerland in Nepal, the exhibition highlights the evolution of Switzerland and Nepal from the period of Maillart’s travels to the partnership between the two countries today. The embassy said it reflects enduring people-to-people connections, curiosity and mutual respect that continue to strengthen ties between the two nations.

The embassy said the exhibition offers a perspective on Nepal’s mountain regions and the longstanding friendship between Switzerland and Nepal. The exhibition will remain open throughout November.
