KATHMANDU: President Ramchandra Paudel has emphasised the need to enhance production and productivity.

In his message on World Workers' Day today, he expressed hope that the day would inspire people to promote the use of domestic products, respect labour, encourage self-employment, ensure fair remuneration, and strengthen social security.

He also extended his best wishes for happiness, peace, and prosperity to all Nepali working sisters and brothers at home and abroad.

The President stated that Labour Day serves as a unifying force for workers worldwide in protecting their rights, interests, and freedoms.

He noted that the Constitution guarantees all citizens the right to employment and labour, as well as the right to social security based on fair wages, benefits, and contributions for every worker. He further said that the right to equality ensures no discrimination in wages or social security based on gender for equal work.

"I believe that the working class will also benefit as the constitutional provision takes shape to build a socialism-oriented economy based on democracy in the country," his message reads.

Labour Day is observed annually on May 1 to commemorate the establishment of professional dignity, respect for workers, and recognition of their rights.
