KATHMANDU: Vice-Chairman of National Planning Commission (NPC), Professor Dr Shiva Raj Adhikari, has suggested that the government prioritise budget allocation for projects that can be implemented at the earliest.

Speaking at an interaction on formulation of annual development programmes, the mid-term expenditure framework (MTEF), and the NPC’s project bank on Wednesday, Adhikari stated that projects will be categorised based on study and feasibility.

He stressed that enforceable projects must not be valued at less than Rs 30 million, adding that arrangements had been made to exclude such projects from the list of national pride projects.

The budget should be directed towards programmes aligned with government policies, he remarked. He further stated that projects absent from both the project bank and Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be scrutinised, with those lacking a DPR relegated for further study.

Joint Secretary Khomraj Koirala presented findings on the MTEF, revealing that only 40 out of 44 government agencies had submitted data, with capital expenditure recorded at just 32%.

Additionally, a presentation on the national project bank system indicated that 7,337 projects had been entered into the system, with some still in the drafting phase.
