KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC)’s Department of Library and Party Study-Resource Centre and Udhyamsheel Congress recently conducted a programme to discuss policies and budget. The programme aimed to facilitate in-depth dialogue and interaction on entrepreneurship, innovation, and micro-enterprises.

The event, held at NC’s central office in Sanepa, Lalitpur, featured extensive discussions on various aspects of entrepreneurship.

During the programme, NC Treasurer Umesh Shrestha stated that the government should increase investment, prioritising sectors with immense potential in Nepal, such as hydropower and agriculture.

Former Minister of State for Finance, Udaya Shumsher Rana, emphasised that economic prosperity can only be achieved through second-generation reforms. He stressed the need for government focus on the construction and maintenance of vital public infrastructure.

Former Vice Chairman of National Planning Commission (NPC) and NC central member Govinda Raj Pokhrel stated that instead of young people feeling frustrated and seeking opportunities abroad, they should explore possibilities within the country. He mentioned that policymakers must create a conducive environment and align education with business-oriented approaches.

NC central member and Chief of NC’s Department of Library and Party Study-Resource Centre, Ajaya Babu Siwakoti, assured that the issues raised during discussions on entrepreneurship will be conveyed to the leadership level.

Former Vice Chairman of NPC, Biswo Nath Poudel, pointed out that although Nepal’s laws are industry-friendly, weak implementation remains a significant challenge. He called for a robust plan to uplift the country’s economy.

Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) executive member Manoj Paudel stated that economic success is unattainable without good governance and public trust in state institutions. He emphasised the need to promote entrepreneurship in every village, rural municipality, and municipality.

FNCCI’s former central member Ranjit Acharya remarked that while the government should take the lead in supporting startups, the responsibility of financing them should not rest solely on the state.

Industrial Enterprise Development Institute (IEDI) Executive Director Umesh Kumar Gupta provided insights into startup loans offered by the government.

Likewise, Udhyamsheel Congress President Ashwin Sitaula stated that the discussion was organised to foster a common understanding among stakeholders through effective dialogue on entrepreneurship.

General Secretary of Udhyamsheel Congress, Mohan Gajurel, stated that entrepreneurship-related discussions would continue and engagement with stakeholders will be sustained in the coming days.

Experts in the new venture sector, including Kabiraj Joshi, Tax Advocate Pratishtha Bhandari, and Akash Subedi, also shared their perspectives during the programme.
