KATHMANDU: Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) President Chandra Prasad Dhakal has called on non-resident Nepalis to invest in Nepal’s large-scale infrastructure projects.
Speaking at the event "Policies and Platforms Creating and Enabling an Environment for Diaspora Investment," organised by the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) in Kathmandu as part of the NRNA Global Conclave, Dhakal made the appeal.
Emphasising that Nepali diaspora worldwide represents expertise, innovation, and financial capital, Dhakal urged collective efforts for Nepal’s progress. He highlighted the importance of unity within the NRNA, stating that it should move forward together rather than separately. He noted that Nepalis engaging in politics everywhere has created a negative perception and urged the organisation to work in unity.
Addressing FNCCI’s ongoing support for concerns raised by non-resident Nepalis, Dhakal stressed that they must recognise their responsibilities towards Nepal alongside their rights.
Dhakal said that during his foreign visits, he has heard negative remarks from the diaspora regarding Nepal’s slower development compared to the USA, Australia, and Korea. He questioned whether Nepal should only be criticised or whether non-resident Nepalis should work together to create a common vision for the country's economic future. He urged them to use their experience, capital, skills, and technology to help Nepal become a prosperous nation.
Referring to the NRN Investment Company, initially established to invest in Nepal, Dhakal remarked that changes in ownership among NRN investors had hindered the company from delivering returns. He suggested aligning the company with its original objectives.
He also mentioned that the Nepal Development Public Limited Company, with a capital of Rs 10 billion, has been established under FNCCI’s initiative to drive infrastructure development. He urged non-resident Nepalis to participate in the venture.
FNCCI President Dhakal underlined Nepal’s significant potential encouraging non-resident Nepalis to collaborate in unlocking opportunities for national progress.
