KATHMANDU: Lawmakers shared their views on various contemporary issues during a meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) today.

During the zero hour of the session, Bina Lama urged the government to address the concerns of Maryada Palaks, or marshals assigned in parliament. She demanded provisions for nutritious snacks and meals for them.

Similarly, Binita Kumari Singh accused the government of indifference towards the implementation of the People's Housing Programme.

Bina Jaiswal expressed concern that banks and financial institutions undervalue loan securities when proceeding with auctions. She called on the Nepal Rastra Bank to play a more effective role as a regulatory body to eliminate unnecessary hurdles in obtaining bank loans.

Shanti Shrestha said the government's policies and programmes for the upcoming fiscal year include promising measures for poverty alleviation and should be incorporated into the budget. She also called for additional measures to ensure all children have access to education.

Shiva Nepali pointed out that long-route transportation services, including those offering air conditioning and deluxe facilities, as well as airline companies, are being accused of failing to provide the level of service they charge passengers for. He urged the government to address public grievances regarding these services.

Sher Bahadur Kunwar criticised the State’s treatment of former people's representatives, citing the case of former parliamentarian Govinda Nath Upreti from Kavrepalanchok. "He is critically ill," Kunwar said, urging the government to ensure the ailing former legislator receives proper medical treatment.

Shobha Gyawali demanded the prompt construction of a bridge over the Babai River in Bardiya, while Sarita Gyawali expressed concern over the increasing number of youths engaging in tobacco use. She called for a gradual phase-out of tobacco product supplies.

Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire informed the meeting that the scheduled session for Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to respond to lawmakers' questions, as per Chapter 9 of the House of Regulations - 2079 BS, has been withdrawn from the agenda.
