KATHMANDU: Doko Recyclers and Meltdown jointly organised “Run for the Environment”, a 5‑kilometre run in Kathmandu on Thursday.

The CEO of Doko Recyclers, Pankaj Panjiyar, said: “For every five kilometres a runner completes, we are planting one tree through our ‘5k in June’ programme. I encourage everyone to keep running, keep planting trees, and save the environment!”

Storia, E‑Pharmacy, Karara Kitchen, Hotel Barahi and Young Innovations, among others, partnered with Doko Recyclers on the occasion of World Environment Day, as promulgated by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), to sponsor the event. Approximately 300 runners were in attendance.

Raghavendra Mahto, co‑founder of Doko Recyclers, said: “Individuals who are conscious of their bodies are generally conscious of their environment. We held this run today to raise awareness of nature preservation, conservation and the idea of bringing so many people together, hoping the energy spreads. We want a lot of people to join the recycling revolution.”

Doko Recyclers’ “5k in June” is a series of similar runs on June 5, 11, 18 and 25 and is open for registration. The run fosters fitness and partnership.
