
KATHMANDU: Nepal’s year-on-year consumer price inflation stood at 2.77% in mid-May 2025, down from 4.40% a year earlier, the latest macroeconomic and financial situation report released by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Tuesday shows.
Food and beverage inflation was 1.52% in 10 months of current fiscal year 2024/25, while non-food and service inflation reached 3.45%. During the same period in 2024, these indices had risen by 6.41% and 3.09% respectively.
Within the food and beverage category, the price index for ghee and oil increased by 11.08%, fruit by 6.15%, pulses and legumes by 5.17% and non-alcoholic drinks by 4.70%. By contrast, the vegetable index fell by 8.11%, spices by 2.20% and meat and fish by 0.48%.

Under non-food and services, miscellaneous goods and services rose by 9.04%, education by 5.88%, clothing and footwear by 5.23%, furnishings and household equipment by 3.99%, and restaurant and accommodation services by 3.16%.
In 10 months, the year-on-year price index increased by 3.21% in rural areas and by 2.61% in urban areas.
By province, mid-May consumer price inflation was: Koshi 4.29%; Madhesh 2.81%; Bagmati 2.40%; Gandaki 2.23%; Lumbini 2.15%; Karnali 2.21%; and Sudurpashchim 3.14%.
Regionally, inflation stood at 2.64% in both the Kathmandu Valley and the Terai, at 2.65% in the Hill region and at 4.01% in the Mountain region.
Wholesale Price Inflation (WPI)
Year-on-year WPI was 3.95% in mid-May 2025, down from 5.68% a year earlier. The wholesale price of consumer goods rose by 10.89%, while intermediate goods and capital goods increased by 0.10% and 2.73% respectively. Wholesale construction materials were up by 2.67% in the review month.
