KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today informed Parliament of Nepal’s participation and achievements at the United Nations’ Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4) in Seville, Spain.

Speaking in the House of Representatives, Oli said the conference had fostered new global partnerships in economic diplomacy and accelerated progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.

At FFD4, he addressed delegates on behalf of the least developed countries, advocating for their rights and socio-economic advancement. He noted that under the Seville Commitment, these nations expect global support and assistance as they upgrade, and that Nepal is on track to graduate to developing-country status by 2026.

The prime minister briefed MPs on his leadership and advocacy efforts, including his speech to the LDC group, slide presentations and roundtable discussions. Alongside 44 least developed countries, Nepal demonstrated its leadership potential, he added.

On the eve of the conference, Oli addressed civil-society representatives, calling for a proactive role for a strong civil society and highlighting Nepal’s democratic, liberal framework for non-governmental engagement.

He told the House that Nepal’s relations with the United Nations had strengthened and that advocacy had taken place on financing for development, formal and informal development cooperation and climate financing. “Efforts have been made to articulate the priorities of development partnerships. Nepal has proven to be a responsible and capable member of the international community. There are expectations of advancing economic diplomacy and attracting foreign investment,” he said.

PM Oli departed for Seville on June 28 and returned on July 4.
