KATHMANDU: In today’s session of the House of Representatives, MPs drew the government’s attention to a series of pressing issue, chief among them the nationwide doctors’ strike.
Dr Sunil Kumar Sharma sought time to urge the government, via the Speaker, to address the serious impact on citizens caused by the strike, which has suspended all medical services except for emergencies. He called on ministers to heed doctors’ concerns and increase hospital staffing, noting that the Nepal Medical Council is the body responsible for regulating and evaluating medical practice.
Shakti Bahadur Basnet of the CPN (Maoist Centre) called for the expedited reconstruction of earthquake-damaged buildings to ensure citizens have safe housing.
Chandra Bahadur Bishwakarma of the CPN (UML) likewise urged the government to prioritise the needs of earthquake survivors.
Rajendra KC of the Nepali Congress warned against infrastructure projects that could alter the geography and natural features of the Chobhar Galchhi area. He stressed the need to preserve its historical and archaeological significance and called for effective measures to prevent flooding.
