KATHMANDU: Nepal Automobile Importers and Manufacturers Association (NAIMA) has expressed sorrow and offered its condolences following the devastating floods and landslides that struck Rasuwa District.

The association highlighted the immense loss of life, homes and businesses, and extended heartfelt wishes for strength, patience and hope for recovery to all those affected.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday, NAIMA emphasised that beyond the immediate human tragedy, the disaster has severely impacted Nepal’s economy. With over 60% of vehicles entering the country through northern checkpoints, the complete collapse of the Miteri Bridge at Rasuwagadhi border point has caused major disruption to the supply chain.

Along with the bridge on the Nepal–China border, the floods also swept away 24 containers, six trucks and 35 electric vehicles.

The road from Dhunche to Timure has also been blocked, while the dam at Rasuwagadhi Hydro and the yard of the Customs Office in Rasuwa have been damaged.

Vehicles cleared by Chinese customs are currently unable to enter Nepal, a situation compounded by the approaching festive season.

Meanwhile, NAIMA urged the Government of Nepal and relevant authorities to prioritise immediate rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts, and the reconstruction of infrastructure in Rasuwa.

The association also affirmed its readiness to play a coordinating role in addressing the urgent needs arising from the disaster.
