KATHMANDU: Basant Chaudhary Foundation (BSF) hosted Dr Bharat Rawat, senior cardiologist and lifestyle coach, to speak in Kathmandu on Tuesday.
Dr Rawat is Associate Director of Cardiology at Medanta Hospital in Indore, India. He obtained his MBBS in 1991 and MD in General Medicine in 1994 from MGM Medical College, Indore, and a DM in Cardiology in 1997 from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.
In 1998, Dr Rawat and his wife, Anjali, arrived in Kathmandu for a three-month posting but remained in Nepal until 2015. During that period, he served as Executive Director and Chief of Cardiology at Norvic International Hospital.
Binod Chaudhary, President Emeritus of Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI), welcomed Dr Rawat back to Nepal after a decade-long absence and praised his contributions to public health and wellness.
Dr Rawat’s address drew on Bill Perkins’s non-fiction book Die with Zero, which explores parenthood, aspirations and the pursuit of a fulfilling life. He warned that time on Earth is finite and questioned why people devote most of their years to earning and investing money at the expense of health and experiences.
He urged attendees to “take care of your physical health, avoid overtreatment and undertreatment, and trust the advice of the doctor you choose.” He also encouraged spending quality time with one’s spouse, reorganising the balance between work and leisure, and raising self-sufficient children.
