
KATHMANDU: Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Nepal, Abdulla Saeed Mubarak Jarwan Al Shamsi, paid a courtesy call on Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security, Sharat Singh Bhandari, today.
During the meeting, they discussed the welfare of Nepali migrant workers in the UAE. Minister Bhandari highlighted the need to revise the minimum wage for Nepali workers, proposing a monthly salary of at least 1,000 dirhams and calling for mandatory provision of accommodation and food allowances amounting to 400 dirhams.
Ambassador Al Shamsi responded positively to the proposal and assured the Minister of his full support for its implementation.
The Ambassador also expressed interest in the Government of Nepal’s pilot project to send women abroad as domestic workers. Minister Bhandari said internal preparations for the initiative had been completed and that deployment would begin following the final decision of the House of Representatives (HoR) Committee on Industry, Commerce, Labour and Consumer Welfare.
Minister Bhandari further stated that the Government of Nepal is progressing with the digitisation of labour-related services and facilities, expressing hope for continued support and cooperation from the UAE Government.
