KATHMANDU: The Banking Sector Reform Suggestion Taskforce, formed by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), submitted its preliminary report to Governor Dr Biswo Nath Poudel on July 8, followed by its final report on July 14.
The taskforce was established to identify key challenges facing banks and propose reforms to enhance regulatory oversight, governance, financial stability and customer protection.
Coordinated by Dr Rewat Bahadur Karki, the taskforce includes former Nepal Bankers’ Association President Bhuvan Dahal as a member, and Nepal Rastra Bank’s Banks and Financial Institutions Regulation Department Executive Director Guru Prasad Paudel as member secretary.
According to officials, the preliminary report offers an initial set of recommendations on capital adequacy, risk management and credit allocation, while the final report refines these suggestions and adds proposals on digital banking, corporate governance and consumer rights.
Governor Poudel is expected to review the taskforce’s findings this week before announcing a roadmap for implementation. The central bank has said it will engage with commercial banks and stakeholders to finalise the reform agenda.
