KATHMANDU: Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) President Chandra Prasad Dhakal has urged young people to create opportunities within Nepal.

Speaking at the 21st annual general meeting (AGM) of Nepalese Youth Entrepreneurs Forum (NYEF) in Kathmandu on Friday, he advised them to explore the country’s possibilities and generate employment domestically. “There are many opportunities in the country. A great deal can be achieved by remaining here. Employment can be created. I urge young people to seize opportunities within the country,” he said.

He stated that young people have a significant role in Nepal’s economic development and that domestic capital can be mobilised to foster entrepreneurship.

He announced that work has begun on establishing Rs 10 billion Nepal Public company under FNCCI leadership to ensure those wishing to work in the country do not face a capital crunch, and said youth innovation will be supported.

“Mobilisation of domestic capital is essential for development,” he added. “Nepal has immense potential in sectors such as agriculture, tourism, hydropower and information technology. All that is needed is appropriate policy facilitation and encouragement for youth innovation.”

He said FNCCI had advocated policy discussions with the government for the nation’s economic prosperity, leading to amendments to more than 30 laws and signalling the creation of an investment-friendly environment.

Dhakal also stated that FNCCI is ready to attract young people to entrepreneurship and innovation, and that its recently amended statute provides for NYEF to be an ex-officio central member of FNCCI.

At the 21st AGM, NYEF elected new leadership under the presidency of young entrepreneur Sudip Ghimire.
