KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Bishnu Prasad Paudel today met a delegation led by China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) Chairman Chen Xiaodong. The meeting at the Ministry of Finance discussed bilateral development partnerships and projects supported by Chinese assistance.
During the meeting, Nepal and China signed four memoranda of understanding (MoUs). Finance Secretary Ghanshyam Upadhyaya and CIDCA Chairman Chen signed MoUs for the construction of a bone marrow transplantation facility at BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital in Bharatpur, Chitwan, and for a feasibility study to expand Civil Service Hospital.
Likewise, an MoU on human resource development will enable more than 1,200 government employees to attend bilateral and multilateral seminars organised by Chinese institutions.
Nepal Electricity Authority Executive Director Hitendra Dev Shakya and CIDCA Chairman Chen signed minutes for a feasibility study into Rasuwagadhi–Kyirong cross-border power transmission line. Chen added that China will assist in rebuilding structures damaged by recent floods in Rasuwa district and work to expedite customs procedures.
Minister Paudel said post-disaster reconstruction is a high priority for Nepal and thanked China for its readiness, interest and commitment. “Rasuwa transit is important not only for imports and exports but also for revenue. We will therefore expedite reconstruction,” he said.
