KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said in the House of Representatives (HoR) that the government’s top priority is to create sufficient jobs at home and engage migrant returnees in productive sectors to discourage young people from seeking work abroad.
Speaking in response to lawmakers’ concerns today, PM Oli said the government has declared 2025 to 2035 BS the “Internal Employment Promotion Decade”.
He added that agriculture, industry, tourism, energy and infrastructure development—Nepal’s major growth areas—are now attracting significant public and private investment and are “well placed to provide job opportunities”. The prime minister said the government has restructured the Prime Minister Employment Programme as the National Employment Programme, making it more skills- and employment-oriented.
“Entrepreneurship development programmes through startups and innovation are in operation, targeting the Gen Z population,” he said. Under the ReMi Project, reintegration and entrepreneurship initiatives have been implemented in 20 local levels of Koshi and Madhesh provinces for youths returning from foreign migration.
Reiterating his commitment to tackling corruption, PM Oli said it was “intolerable”.
