Cabinet approves China deal for bone marrow transplant centre and World Bank grant talks

KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung today announced the decisions taken by the Cabinet at its meeting on July 20.

Minister Gurung said the government approved the signing of a letter of exchange with the Chinese government regarding the bone marrow transplantation medical centre project at BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital in Bharatpur, Chitwan.

At a press conference at the ministry, Minister Gurung added that the government had decided to form a negotiation team led by a joint secretary from the Ministry of Finance to hold talks with the World Bank on accepting a $10 million grant for the public finance project.

Speaking as government spokesperson, Gurung said the Cabinet approved the participation of ministers and secretaries in international events. Accordingly, Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Ramnath Adhikari is authorised to attend the second United Nations Food Systems Summit stocktake in Ethiopia, and State Minister for Forests and Environment Rupa BK to attend an event in Zimbabwe.

Other decisions include approving the voluntary retirement of Deputy Attorney General Dr Tek Bahadur Ghimire, effective from July 18, and the promotion of several civil servants.
