KATHMANDU: Parbati Karki of Bangepipal, Gangajamuna Rural Municipality-6, Dhading, was declared the bumper prize winner of Ncell’s Sadhain ON Crorepati campaign on Friday at Ncell ICON in Lainchaur, Kathmandu. She received a cash award of Rs 1 crore (Rs 10 million) at a special ceremony; her reaction was one of overwhelming joy and disbelief.

The Sadhain ON Crorepati campaign ran from June 15 to July 16. Customers who purchased services worth Rs 99 or more were eligible for weekly cash prizes of Rs 100,000 and the bumper prize of Rs 10 million. Karki secured her entry by buying the Basic Renewal pack for Rs 99 during the campaign’s third week. Alongside her, 50 other participants each won Rs 100,000 as weekly cash prizes.

In accordance with a directive from the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA), Ncell discontinued the campaign on July 17, having originally slated it to run for 12 weeks.

Karki’s victory follows a period of sustained hardship. In 2015, the earthquake that struck Nepal killed her one-month-old son and reduced her newly built home to rubble. With no alternative, the family borrowed money, and her husband left for employment in Bahrain. Their only surviving son is now studying in Grade 12 in Kathmandu. Karki serves as a Female Community Health Volunteer (FCHV), providing health support and guidance to rural families.

“We are still repaying those debts, and my husband’s health is not good either,” Karki said, recalling a small business venture in Kathmandu that ended in heavy losses and forced her husband abroad again.

Her journey from tragedy to triumph illustrates the power of perseverance. “I have endured so many struggles in life but never gave up and never stopped believing,” she said. “This prize feels like a reward for all those years of hardship. I am deeply grateful to the Ncell family for recognising my journey.”

Karki intends to use the prize money to clear remaining debts, bring her husband home and invest in their son’s future. “No more foreign employment now. We want to start a business together here in Nepal,” she added.

“It brings us immense joy to fulfil our promise and award this life-changing bumper prize as part of the Sadhain ON Crorepati campaign,” said Enamul Kabir, Chief Financial Officer of Ncell. “On behalf of the entire Ncell family, I warmly congratulate Parbati Karki. Her story is one of hope and reflects our unwavering commitment to keeping our word. We look forward to visiting Dhading once her family is reunited.”

According to Ncell, cash prizes have already been distributed to Karki and 35 other weekly winners, while the verification process for the remaining 15 recipients is ongoing.
