KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley Development Authority (KVDA) has announced it will crack down on increasing unauthorised plotting, housing and infrastructure development in the valley carried out without plan approval.
At a press conference today, Kathmandu District Commissioner at KVDA Subash Basnet said the authority is playing an active role in managing urbanisation. He noted that, despite the requirement to obtain a plan permit from KVDA for the construction of physical structures — including land plotting, institutional, commercial and public buildings, mixed residential blocks, assembly and conference halls, cultural and banquet venues, hospitals, schools and colleges — numerous organisations and individuals have proceeded without permission.
Commissioner Basnet urged property buyers and citizens to be aware of the potential legal implications, warning that land plots or buildings offered for sale without a KVDA plan permit are illegal.
He also asked media outlets to refrain from publishing advertisements for land plots sold by estate companies that have not completed the legal process or for unauthorised land divisions that fail to meet KVDA standards. The authority has warned that strict action will be taken against any such unauthorised developments.
