KATHMANDU: Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and property during nationwide demonstrations organised by Gen-Z to demand various reforms.
In a statement issued today, it extended its heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
The private sector organisation urged the Government of Nepal, political parties and all stakeholders to heed the concerns of the younger generation regarding dignified employment, self-employment and the transparent utilisation of public and entrepreneurial revenues.
It warned against allowing a climate of despair and unrest to take root, calling instead for peaceful protests free from unnecessary force.
According to the FNCCI, dignified employment with competitive wages can only be secured through sustained economic growth coupled with social justice. With the country entering its main tourist season, the federation stressed the importance of maintaining a dynamic business environment and projecting a positive image of Nepal abroad.
"We must exercise restraint and embark on a journey towards prosperity through dialogue and collaboration," the FNCCI statement read. It appealed to Gen-Z activists, political leaders and government officials alike to prevent a recurrence of violent incidents and to work together in creating opportunities for investment and job creation.
The FNCCI also highlighted the need for citizens to enjoy easy and dignified access to government services and the freedom to pursue professions and businesses in line with youth aspirations. It called on all parties to contribute constructively to building a prosperous and inclusive society.
