KATHMANDU: Nepali Army (NA) has thanked the public for their support and cooperation with security agencies in maintaining peace amid the current adverse situation.
The NA expressed deep regret at the loss of life and property during recent protests and urged everyone to cooperate with security forces to curb criminal activities.
Citing reports of ongoing vandalism and arson in some areas due to the infiltration of anarchic individuals and groups, and the risk of further incidents, the NA has imposed a prohibitory order until 5:00 pm today. A curfew will then be in force until 6:00 am on Thursday.
A further notice will be issued once the situation has been analysed.
During the prohibitory order and curfew, vehicles providing essential services — ambulances, hearses, fire engines, health services and security — will operate as usual. Concerned persons and offices are advised to coordinate with nearby security officials for facilitation.
Coordination is underway with all relevant parties to resolve the issues, the NA Public Relations and Information Directorate said, warning that stringent action will be taken against anyone involved in vandalism, looting, arson or protests during the prohibitory order and curfew.
The NA also appealed to security personnel, civil servants, media professionals and citizens not to be swayed by false or misleading information and to disseminate only credible news. It expressed confidence that the public will cooperate in maintaining national unity and social harmony, thereby restoring normality.
In its statement, the NA reiterated its commitment to the security of all Nepalis and to humanitarian action, and sought public support in this endeavour.
