KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Prime Minister Sushila Karki officially assumed office at Singha Durbar today, according to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.

Earlier this morning, Prime Minister Karki garlanded the statues of the martyrs at the Martyrs’ Memorial at Lainchaur and Sahid Gate before assuming office.

Officials confirmed that the new administrative set-up will temporarily operate from the newly built Ministry of Home Affairs building in Singha Durbar.

Owing to damage sustained at her official residence in Baluwatar during recent protests, Prime Minister Karki has been residing at her private home.

The government has arranged for her to run the Prime Minister’s Office from MoHA’s new premises.

President Ramchandra Paudel appointed Karki as Prime Minister of the interim government on September 12, following the Gen-Z protests that led to the resignation of then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on September 9, which had created a political vacuum.

The President made untiring efforts to build consensus in the difficult situation caused by the Gen-Z protests that led to the resignation of then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday, creating a political vacuum.
