KATHMANDU: The US government has welcomed the appointment of Sushila Karki as prime minister of Nepal’s interim government.
"We look forward to working with the interim government in the months ahead as they prepare for new elections," reads a statement released by the US Embassy in Kathmandu today, welcoming the restoration of calm and a peaceful resolution following last week’s tragic events.
The statement commends President Ramchandra Paudel and youth leaders for their commitment to a democratic solution and recognises the Nepali Army and its Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashok Raj Sigdel, for their vital role in restoring order and facilitating a peaceful transition to civilian government.
