KATHMANDU: President of Non-Life Insurance Business Association and immediate past president of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC), Rajendra Malla, has called for a full assessment of national property damage sustained during recent protests and the establishment of a relief fund for reconstruction.
Speaking at a meeting with newly appointed Finance Minister Rameshore Prasad Khanal, Malla pledged the private sector’s complete support and cooperation for rebuilding efforts.
Malla said the private sector stands ready to assist the government in reconstructing key structures such as Singha Durbar, Federal Parliament Building and the Supreme Court, both collectively and on an individual level. He added that all stakeholders must work responsibly to establish good governance and achieve economic prosperity.
He also emphasised that the government should create an environment that facilitates the insurance process and other assistance for damage to private sector property.
Malla urged the immediate implementation of relief programmes for entrepreneurs and businesspeople affected by the protests.
He placed special emphasis on generating employment opportunities for young people, suggesting that part-time work would help resolve some urgent problems.
Malla further recommended that the government take policy-level steps to identify existing natural resources and domestic capacities, focus on production and consumption, and boost exports.
Malla stated that the private sector is always ready to cooperate with the government to steer the country towards economic stability and long-term prosperity.
