KATHMANDU: Six major roadways across the country have remained completely disrupted, while 169 have been operational one‑way, the Department of Roads (DoR) said.
Floods and landslides have blocked and damaged the roads, the DoR confirmed.
DoR Spokesperson Prabhat Kumar Jha said the Kathmandu–Dhulikhel–Dolalghat–Khadichaur–Kodari Araniko Highway was likely to be restored by this evening, adding that road‑enhancement works have been carried out because of people’s increased need to travel during the Dashain festival.
Prithvi Highway, which had resumed on Sunday evening after being blocked by a landslide, will remain shut until 3:00 pm today for debris removal.
Roads stretching from Thori to Malekhu via Bhandara and the Galchhi–Trishuli–Betrawati–Mailung–Syafrubesi–Rasuwagadhi route were among those disrupted by the July 29 flood in Rasuwa.
Excavator‑assisted efforts have been ongoing to restore road conditions.
Traffic along the Rani/Biratnagar to Hile route via Itahari–Dharan and Dhankuta, and on Leghuawaghat–Kimathanka (Koshi Highway) and the Tamor Corridor, has remained disrupted due to rain‑triggered disasters.
DoR Information Officer Amit Kumar Sharma said roads with defects covering a total of 400,000 square metres across the country were in need of repair, and added that road improvement efforts targeting the Dashain festival have been underway with priorities.
