KATHMANDU: Hindus across the country are observing Kojagrat Purnima (full moon day) today. The occasion marks the final day of the 15-day Bada Dashain festival, with devotees worshipping and paying homage to Mahalakshmi, the Goddess of wealth and prosperity.
Bada Dashain festival formally concludes today with the observance of Kojagrat Purnima — devotees offer worship to Mahalakshmi at their homes in the evening and keep vigil throughout the night. According to belief, the Goddess Mahalakshmi takes a trip around the world on the night of Kojagrat Purnima to check who is observing the vigil on this particular night.
As per this belief, the Goddess of wealth blesses those found observing the overnight vigil.
Since the ritual of giving and receiving Tika and Jamara also concludes on this day, the Jamara that is sprouted and anointed at the Dashainghar and Kot on the day of Ghatasthapana is disposed of in ponds, rivers and sacred places in accordance with religious tradition.
