KATHMANDU: Embark UnMath has launched Season 2 of the Global Math Debate League (GMDL), an education programme that blends mathematical thinking with competitive debate, connecting students from schools across Nepal in a multi-stage national competition.

The league is described by Embark UnMath as a platform that turns mathematics into a language of ideas, logic and communication, challenging participants to use maths to express, persuade and innovate in real-world contexts.

“This league creates a special national platform where students can prove that maths is an exciting field of logical thinking and problem-solving that goes far beyond the traditional classroom,” said Divesh Bathija, co-founder of Embark UnMath.

The competition runs across three stages — a screening round, regional qualifiers and a national round — designed to promote collaboration, creativity and critical thinking. Organisers say students sharpen logical reasoning, build public speaking skills and deepen their understanding of how mathematics applies to real-world issues.

According to Embark UnMath, the GMDL is Nepal’s first programme of its kind and aims to build a nationwide community of young thinkers, debaters and problem-solvers, positioning maths as a mindset for life rather than just a subject.

Founded in 2012, Embark UnMath is an extension of UnMath School’s global mission to redefine how maths is experienced in schools. Its experiential programmes include the Global Math Debate League, Math Marathon and Space Math.
