KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has expressed a commitment to implementing political and administrative reforms to address problems such as corruption, unemployment and discrimination.

Prime Minister Karki, issuing a video message on Thursday, said, "We have introduced a special programme for relief to the victim families and treatment for the injured of the Gen‑Z protests of last September 8 and 9. We are in the process of creating additional mechanisms for their welfare."

In a video message made public on the occasion of one month since Nepal's Gen-Z youth started the political protests, the Prime Minister said it is essential for everyone to internalise the spirit of the Gen-Z political revolution.

"Behind the sacrifices of our youth is an intense desire to see political and economic reforms. There is an expectation of justice and the rule of law in the country. There is a desire to see corruption and mismanagement eradicated in the country," the Prime Minister said in the message. "We all must accept the revolution carried out by the younger generation."

PM Karki mentioned that past governments had been unable to listen to the youth's voices and address their demands, making it clear that everyone must humbly acknowledge their weaknesses and mistakes. "On one hand, frustration is prevalent among our youth, and on the other, an intense love for the country. I want to respect their feelings," PM Karki said.

Informing that the government has brought a special programme for relief to the victim families and treatment for the injured, the Prime Minister stated that they are in the process of creating additional mechanisms for their welfare. Karki expressed a commitment to implementing political and administrative reforms to address problems such as corruption, unemployment and discrimination.

Mentioning that she is committed to the change desired by the youth generation and is moving forward on a new path, PM Karki emphasised that continuous efforts should be made to address the youth's demands even after the upcoming election. "It is essential for all youth to be aware of the demands raised by Gen‑Z, and it is also essential for political parties to reform themselves," she said.

During the address, the Prime Minister expressed a commitment to establishing a new mechanism to meaningfully involve Gen‑Z in building the future of Nepal. She also appealed to everyone to maintain restraint and stop the cycle of violence.

"To make the sad events the foundation of building a new Nepal, we need mutual goodwill and national unity," the Prime Minister said. "The current government and the new government that comes after the election will also take concrete steps to realise the dreams of the youth and build a prosperous Nepal."

Emphasising that everyone must move forward together during this time of crisis, she said, "We will make every possible effort not to let the sacrifices of the martyrs go in vain. I hope that in this hour of crisis, we will all move forward united."
