BHAIRAHAWA: Lumbini Lions have released their official anthem, "Syabas!", ahead of the second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).
The poetic anthem weaves Buddhist philosophy and sport into a single metaphor and features lyrics and vocals by Nawaraj Parajuli. Parajuli said the song is written primarily from the perspective of spectators, who are embraced in the anthem as the team's "12th player".
He included the following Nepali lines in the anthem:
Hami Lumbiniko bahraun kheladi banchhaun
Aaphain aphno kandhma dhap marera bhanchhaun
Syabas!
Parajuli explained the lines as: "We become Lumbini's 12th player / we pat our own shoulders and say / Bravo!"
The anthem also frames meditation and breath from Buddhist thought through sporting language and includes these Nepali lines:
Khel jitda aayo sas, khel khelda gayo sas
Aayo sas gayo sas, saslai hetirahayo sas
Aunejane saslai banaera sahas
Lumbinile yasto khelyo sasle bhanyo, 'kya baat! syabas'
The translated lines read: "When the game is won, breath comes; when the game is played, breath goes / breath comes, breath goes, breath keeps watching the breath / making the coming and going breath into courage / Lumbini played so well that the breath said, 'Incredible! Bravo!'"
Music for the anthem was composed by Ujjwal Sagar, and the lyrical video was produced by Bibek Nishani. The anthem was unveiled during a special event in Lumbini as part of the NPL trophy tour.
