Agricultural exports via Kakarbhitta quarantine office total Rs 3.37bn in Q1

BHADRAPUR, JHAPA: Agricultural produce worth Rs 3.37 billion was exported in the first quarter of current fiscal year 2025/26 through the Plant Quarantine and Pesticide Management Centre Quarantine Office, Kakarbhitta.

Office information officer Chandreshwar Thakur said the main export items were black cardamom, tea, plywood and veneer, ginger, broom grass (amliso) and other products.

Cardamom topped exports at Rs 1.51 billion. Other major exports were tea Rs 756.60 million, plywood Rs 277.40 million, veneer Rs 272.80 million and amliso Rs 195.90 million. Ginger exports totalled Rs 119.00 million, fresh vegetables Rs 94.70 million, lentils Rs 74.10 million and herbs Rs 12.40 million.

Thakur said that in the same period last fiscal year, imports of agricultural produce through the eastern border checkpoint amounted to Rs 1.45 billion.

The principal imported items were potatoes, millet, grams, rice, fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, garlic, maize and livestock fodder. Millet imports were valued at Rs 6.20 million, rice Rs 4.96 million and vegetables Rs 3.06 million. Fresh fruits imported were worth Rs 236.70 million, garlic Rs 179.90 million and potatoes Rs 307.70 million.
