KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has emphasised that policy measures are needed to ensure that foreign employment is safe and freely accessible.
Speaking at a programme organised today to mark the 18th establishment day of the Foreign Employment Board, the Prime Minister highlighted the need to guarantee transparency and dignity in foreign employment.
She instructed the Board to implement measures for the respectful reintegration of returnees from foreign employment into their families, and to ensure their social security. The Prime Minister, who also serves as Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security and as chair of the Board, stressed the need to provide skills training for those seeking foreign employment.
She said the government has pursued a policy of mobilising the capital, skills, technology and experience gained during foreign employment into domestic productive sectors.
“The Call Centre and telemedicine services launched by the Board to address issues faced by foreign migrants have proven useful for the welfare of workers,” the Prime Minister said.
She reiterated the need to focus equally on creating decent job opportunities within the country and on prioritising skills‑based entrepreneurship and reintegration programmes, and directed the ministry to prepare and implement an action plan to achieve these objectives.
