KATHMANDU: Nepal Engineers' Association (NEA) has received a proposed syllabus for a Cybersecurity Upskilling Training Programme aimed at professionalising and standardising the country’s cybersecurity sector.

The syllabus was submitted by the NEA Cybersecurity Training Syllabus Committee, led by coordinator Bijay Kumar Roy, to NEA President Subash Chandra Baral. The core team behind the initiative includes Chiranjibi Adhikari, Founder President of the Centre for Cybersecurity Research and Innovation (CSRI Nepal), Sujan Shrestha, Roja Kiran Basukala, Bandana Sharma, Vivek S Rana, Yasmine Bhattarai, Suvash Khadka and Narayan Lamghade.

The programme is designed to address a growing skills gap as Nepal undergoes rapid digital transformation and faces an increase in cyber threats. Roy said the initiative aims to raise professional standards.

"This training programme is not just another course; it is designed to create a benchmark of the cybersecurity space of Nepal," stated Roy. "Our goal is to equip engineers and tech professionals with the advanced, practical skills needed to secure our nation's digital infrastructure against sophisticated threats."

A key feature of the syllabus is its collaborative approach with major industry stakeholders. Chiranjibi Adhikari, a cybersecurity policy expert, said the multi‑stakeholder model will strengthen national defences.

"This cybersecurity training program, conducted with multiple stakeholders’ collaboration, such as NTA, Center For Cybersecurity Research and Innovation (CSRI Nepal), Information Security Response Team Nepal (npCert), CAN Federation and other stakeholders, will make a big impact to minimise the cybersecurity issues in Nepal," said Adhikari. "By integrating the expertise of regulators, innovators, and practitioners, we are building a united front against cybercrime."

NEA President Subash Chandra Baral thanked the committee for its work and confirmed the association is committed to a swift launch. The training programme is expected to be implemented very soon, marking a milestone in professional development for engineers and technology experts and strengthening cybersecurity resilience across Nepal’s public and private sectors.
