KATHMANDU: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is set to invest Rs 3 billion in a joint venture to be established for the development of two cross‑border transmission lines, the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation said.
The NEA and Power Grid Corporation of India will have investments in the joint venture, the Ministry said.
The Ministry stated that Rs 1 billion will be invested in the joint venture to be established in Nepal and Rs 2 billion in India as the equity share. The NEA will invest the amount from its own internal resources.
As already agreed by officials of the two countries, the joint venture is set up for the construction of the Inaruwa‑Purnia and Dodhara‑Bareilly cross‑border transmission lines.
The transmission lines, important for energy exchanges, are expected to be completed by 2030.
The joint venture to be established in Nepal will have a 51% share held by the NEA and 49% by the Power Grid Corporation of India, the Ministry added.
