KATHMANDU: The China National Tourist Office in Kathmandu organised a promotional event on Thursday to showcase the tourism, cultures, cuisines and experiences of Nepal and China. The 'Nihao! China' Tourism Promotion programme concluded with cultural performances, promotional activities and an awards ceremony.

The programme aimed to strengthen links between the two countries’ tourism sectors and to highlight tourism packages offered by China to visitors from Nepal and beyond.

On the occasion, Director of the China National Tourist Office in Kathmandu, Xiao Jiang, said that the Office is dedicated to building connections between the tourism fraternities of Nepal and China and has been working to build connections and platforms for cooperation between tourism institutions and enterprises of the two countries. “We support and assist local governments in China to promote their tourism resources, travel routes and products in Nepal,” she added.

Director Xiao also said that the Office selects Nepali outbound tour agents to participate in the China International Travel Mart (CITM) and to attend major international tourism festivals in China to help Nepali travel operators better explore the Chinese tourism market and build business links with their Chinese counterparts.

Mohan Suwal, an official at the China National Tourist Office, outlined Chinese tourism attractions and possible collaboration to foster tourism business between the two countries. He gave a detailed presentation on the varieties of Chinese cuisine, adding that China is rich in culinary traditions.

Also speaking at the event, the General Manager of Air China in Kathmandu, Ma Kun, pledged to work to deepen tourism collaboration between the two countries and to serve as a platform to promote exchanges.

The programme was attended by diplomats, airlines, tourism leaders and representatives of Nepali and Chinese travel agencies. Various top-selling travel agencies were recognised for their business practices and collaboration with Air China.

The China National Tourist Office in Kathmandu was established in 2001 to promote information about China’s tourism resources and to facilitate Nepali travellers visiting China.
