KATHMANDU: Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) President Chandra Prasad Dhakal has said the FNCCI will take initiatives for unanimous leadership selection at its 60th annual general meeting.

Speaking at the inauguration of 28th annual general meeting (AGM) and convention of Bhaktapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), Dhakal said a unanimous choice at the FNCCI’s 60th AGM is necessary for institutional reform, policy continuity and unity within the private sector, and that he would personally take initiatives to achieve it.

Dhakal said the FNCCI has been engaging continuously with the government to push for policy reforms, create an investment‑friendly environment and protect private sector interests. He cited the federation’s role in opposing proposals to bring private sector under the jurisdiction of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), in the formation of the High‑level Economic Reforms Recommendation Commission, and in the amendment of dozens of laws to attract investment.

“Policy stability and cooperation between the government and private sector are indispensable for production, employment, and investment promotion,” Dhakal said, adding that many policy reforms have been achieved through the FNCCI’s sustained efforts.

Mentioning a recent decline in private sector morale, he said businesses now seek assurance of peace, security and an environment conducive to investment. He urged legal action against those who, he said, infiltrated protests on September 8 and 9 and attacked industries, businesses and private property.

On investment promotion, Dhakal said the FNCCI has prioritised private sector leadership and has helped establish the Nepal Development Company with a capital of Rs 10 billion. The company, he said, is operational and aims to encourage private participation in large infrastructure projects, investment in productive sectors and job creation. He urged local entrepreneurs to take advantage of the opportunity.

Highlighting Bhaktapur’s cultural and tourism importance and its role as a hub for traditional handicrafts, cottage industries and small and medium‑sized enterprises, Dhakal said local chambers would play a significant role in promoting industry, business and tourism at the district level.
