KATHMANDU: The deadline of the Investigation Commission formed by the government to probe the damage that occurred during the Gen‑Z protest on September 8 and 9 has been extended by 20 days, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal confirmed.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers today decided on the extension. The Commission's term has been extended for a second time at the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs, as the report was still being prepared, although a three‑month deadline had been given initially; the Commission's term was due to expire today.
The Commission was formed by Cabinet decision on September 21, 2025 and is chaired by former judge Gauri Bahadur Karki. The Commission comprises former Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Bigyan Raj Sharma and legal expert Bishweshwor Bhandari.
The government has decided to accept a $2 million grant from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank for the Butwal–Pokhara section upgrade project.
Home Minister Aryal has also been appointed the government's spokesperson. Other decisions of the meeting will be made public at a regular press conference, it is said.
