KATHMANDU: Nepali Ambassador to South Korea Dr Shiva Maya Tumbahangphe has underlined the need to increase investment in Nepal.
Ambassador Tumbahangphe stressed this during a courtesy call paid to her by the Honorary Consul‑General of Nepal in Gwangju, Republic of Korea, Jeon Sung‑Hyun, at her office at the Nepali Embassy in Seoul.
The embassy said Nepal–Korea diplomatic relations, mutual cooperation and economic partnership featured prominently during the meeting. Investment promotion in Nepal is an utmost priority, the ambassador said, adding that the Government of Nepal has created an atmosphere to attract more investment. There is huge potential to export Nepali products to the Korean market, she added, and policy and procedural reforms are being made in Nepal.
They also discussed problems facing Nepali students and labourers in South Korea and measures to address them. The ambassador urged the consul‑general to consider how social security schemes, such as insurance for Nepali students in Gwangju, could be made more accessible and convenient. His active role was sought for coordination and collaboration in this regard, the embassy said.
The embassy also outlined plans to organise a mega investment conference in Gwangju, a prominent city in the south‑western belt of South Korea, and requested the consul‑general’s help in identifying potential industrialists and investors to attend the event.
Honorary Consul‑General Jeon Sung‑Hyun briefed the ambassador on his activities and progress in Gwangju and shared his plans and initiatives to strengthen Nepal–Korea relations.
The consul‑general, who wishes to be identified as “A Son of Nepal”, has visited Nepal 21 times and provided medical assistance with a team of doctors during the 2015 Gorkha earthquake relief efforts.
