KATHMANDU: The Global Math Debate League (GMDL) has announced the nationwide schedule for its 2026 regional and national rounds, aiming to combine mathematical reasoning with critical thinking and debate among school students.
The regional rounds will be held across five hubs in February 2026. The Jhapa regional round will take place on February 4 and 5, followed by the Chitwan regional round on February 7 and 8. The Butwal‑Bhairahawa regional round is scheduled for February 10 and 11, the Pokhara regional round on February 13 and 14, and the series will conclude with the Kathmandu regional round on February 16 and 17.
The national round will be held in Kathmandu on February 21 and 22, 2026, bringing together top teams from across the country.
Divesh Bathija, co‑founder of GMDL, said, “The Global Math Debate League is transforming mathematics from a subject students memorise into one they debate, reason through, and apply to real‑world challenges. With five regional hubs and strong partnerships across Nepal, we're building a generation of critical thinkers ready to compete on the global stage.”
This year's league is supported by strategic academic and institutional partners. Britannica Inc. joins GMDL as Research and Skill Tech Partner, while Educase and the Lab of Future, Dubai, contribute as sponsors. Regional co‑organisers include Aastha College for the Jhapa round, Lumbini World School for the Butwal‑Bhairahawa round, and Kumudini Homes School for the Pokhara round.
Foodmandu will serve as the food delivery partner, handling catering logistics for participants and staff, and TBG Nepal (The Beyond Group Nepal) supports the initiative as a Fraction Sponsor.
With participation from schools nationwide and a network of partners, GMDL said the 2026 edition seeks to redefine mathematics education in Nepal by promoting debate, reasoning and real‑world application, and preparing students to compete confidently at national and international levels.
