KATHMANDU: A Qatari delegation, visiting Nepal at the invitation of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), met Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Prof Dr Biswo Nath Poudel on Tuesday to discuss foreign investment and the country’s banking system.
The delegation was led by Mohamed Bin Ahmed Al Obaidly, board member of Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI). The meeting was attended by Qatar’s ambassador to Nepal, Mishal bin Mohammed Ali Al Ansari, and FNCCI president Chandra Prasad Dhakal.
Delegates and NRB Governor Poudel discussed existing legal provisions for foreign investment, the banking system and Nepal’s investment potential. Poudel provided information on the policy arrangements available for foreign investment, noting that Nepal is continuously moving forward with policy reforms and is keeping foreign investment a priority.
The visiting delegation said Qatari investors were ready for long‑term investment if there were stable policies, a clear legal framework and banking facilitation in Nepal. QCCI board member Mohamed Bin Ahmed Al Obaidly said the Qatari private sector was interested in investing in Nepal and identified possibilities for cooperation in sectors such as banking, tourism, information technology and human resources development. He added that Qatari investment could be brought into Nepal if there was a clear roadmap for investment.
FNCCI President Dhakal said the federation was playing an active role in facilitating foreign investment and expressed the view that there was a concrete possibility of bringing Qatari investment into the country. He stated that the FNCCI was committed to easing the investment process through private sector–to–private sector cooperation, government–private sector dialogue and institutional mechanisms.
