The event celebrated the release of a timely work that delves into Nepal’s diplomatic challenges and strategic choices in an evolving global landscape.
Prof Dr Mohan P Lohani praised Pokharel for tackling a complex subject in an accessible way. He said the book ‘provides both a deep analytical framework and practical insights into how Nepal can balance its relations with neighbours and the wider world’, highlighting its blend of historical depth and current policy analysis.
He also noted that the work covers core themes such as sovereignty, non-alignment, economic diplomacy and Nepal’s constitutional objectives in foreign policy, mirroring the foundational principles outlined in Nepal’s foreign policy.
During his address, Pokharel emphasised that Nepal’s geopolitical position between major powers and its aspirations for peace and prosperity make a robust understanding of foreign policy essential for citizens and leaders alike. He also discussed how the book examines Nepal’s historic position of balanced diplomacy, the evolving contours of international partnerships and the importance of economic and cultural dimensions of foreign engagement.
He thanked the contributors, senior members of the academic community and his family for their support.
