Kathmandu: With the March 5 parliamentary elections around the corner, the Election Commission of Nepal (EC) has issued a strict reminder to officials, teachers, media personnel, and institutions to remain neutral and follow the election code of conduct.

The Commission warned that complaints have surfaced about violations in the run-up to the polls, prompting renewed calls for impartiality. The code applies to federal and provincial governments, ministers, public offices, educators, media houses, NGOs, banks, and business organisations, ensuring a level playing field for all candidates.

EC spokespersons highlighted concern over reports that some teachers and officials have been involved in political campaigning, which is strictly prohibited. Educators and public servants have been directed to refrain from endorsements, advocacy, or support for any candidate or party.

The Commission emphasised that strict adherence to the code is essential to maintain free, fair, and transparent elections. Monitoring has been intensified, and any further violations could lead to legal action under electoral laws.

“The integrity of the elections depends on everyone observing neutrality and avoiding misuse of their institutional platforms,” the EC statement said.
