MAHENDRANAGAR, DHANUSHA: The Food Management and Trade Company, Madhesh Province Office in Janakpurdham has purchased 11,665 quintals of paddy from farmers in Mahottari and Dhanusha districts over the past three months.

Provincial head Nirmal Thapa said paddy worth Rs 42.324 million was bought from 300 farmers in the two districts. Purchases have been suspended after the office’s warehouse reached capacity. The paddy was purchased at Rs 3,628.33 per quintal.

“Since the office’s purchase price for paddy was higher than the market price, farmers came in large numbers to sell paddy,” the office’s assistant manager, Ganga Prasad Sah, said. The company has been limiting purchases to a maximum of 50 quintals per farmer.

Sah said most sellers came from Dhanusha’s Lakshminya Rural Municipality, Nagarain Municipality and Chhireshwarnath Municipality, and from Balawa Municipality in Mahottari.

The office had set a target of purchasing 13,000 quintals of paddy this year.
